Work has begun on The Ropery, our restoration of the nineteenth-century rope works on Tanner Street. The project will create 34 lofts and apartments, a residents’ workshop and a garden court that opens onto the river walk.

Keeping what matters

The original brick sheds, columns and cast-iron windows will be restored. A 1950s extension on the river side will be replaced with a lower timber wing, bringing more sunlight into the court.

“The Ropery is a building the quarter is proud of,” said Imogen Hale, founder of Oriel. “Our job is to give it a long second life without erasing the first.”

What happens next

Strip-out and roof repairs will run through the spring. Show apartments are planned for early 2027.

This is a fictional press release, written as demonstration content for the Oriel template.
